- Wafd Party – An Egyptian nationalistic group that arose after World War I, the Wafd party has grown greatly in power the last few years. Led by Saad Zahloul until his death in 1927, the group gained the support of many Egyptians by focusing on the goal of ending the British occupation of Egypt and gaining more rights for Egyptians. They were instrumental in helping form the Egyptian Constitution of 1923. The Party exists now as the third part of the political power structure, opposite King Farouk I and the British Residency. Currently the Wafd Party is headed by Mustafa el-Nahhas, Prime Minister of Egypt.
